Tucker Wildlife Sanctuary

This little sanctuary in Santiago Creek is wonderful for hiking and bird watching with kids of all ages.

Tucker Wildlife Sanctuary is filled with all kinds of adventures. This little sanctuary can be found at 29322 Modjeska Canyon Rd, Silverado, CA 92676. They are open on Tuesday through Sunday from 9 am to 4 pm. It is free to explore the sanctuary but if you leave a donation it will be greatly appreciated. They offer some amazing events like Bat Night, family friendly walks and talks and so mush more. Make sure you join their Facebook page to stay up to date with all of their events.

Bring your picnic lunch, they have a picnic area under a big tree with tables. Those little nature explorers will surely have an appetite after they are done and I didn't see any restaurant in the canyon when we drove throw.

You are also going to want to bring some binoculars and a sketch book with you. They have a little closed-in look out where you can sit very quietly and observe the birds up close.

They have 90 different birds that come to visit the sanctuary. On the trail you will find a Birds of Tucker list and you can mark down all the ones you see on your visit. If you walk around you will also see posters everywhere giving you more information about the birds in the sanctuary you may run into.

There's many different little trails you can take inside the sanctuary. Just make sure you stay on the path and keep an eye out for snakes.

Next, you may want to pay some attention to all the different native plants they have there in the sanctuary. If you see any you really like you may be able to buy it from their little nursery that they have there.

Finally, when you are all done exploring outside you can move inside to their very cute little Nature Centre. They have a collection of taxidermy and live animals that you can observe really closely. They also have some interactive exhibits and knowledgeable staff will answer any questions you may have.

It's important when you are at the sanctuary to move about slowly, look around and listen often to all the different sounds. But most important is to have fun and respect nature.
