You want to Homeschool - now what?
So - you've made the decision to Home school, now what? What do you do? How are you actually going to pull this off?
If you were anything like we were, we landed ourselves here, through our own unique set of circumstances. My daughters needs, I felt, would be better catered for through a Home-schooling program rather than a traditional school setting. I was not educated in the American School System myself, so I viewed the curriculum as not quite providing the well rounded approach to education that we were seeking. So, with no prior teaching experience or knowledge, I found myself in the position of having to step up and make the commitment to provide the best possible educational experience I could.
What I found interesting was the actual resourcing around the curriculum. It was really complicated and hard work. Whilst I loved the freedom to be able to choose some really interesting and immersive subjects that my daughter loved, the resources available didn't quite "hit the mark" in my mind. I knew there had to be more relevant and interesting things available, to enhance our learning experience. So I decided to find my own information and pull together a practical course that would work within the required framework of The Home School Administration. And so this Blog-spot was born. I felt that there was so much information readily available - and yet not easily found. I wanted to rectify this and share with you the information and resources I have accessed.
My number one tip is: don't be afraid or overwhelmed. As a Home Schooling parent - you CAN do this. Secondly, seek out the advice and input of your Home School Course Co-ordinator. It is prudent to develop a good working relationship with them as they will offer you such support - if you know to ask.
Thirdly - look through this Blog spot. I have shared our 3 years, our course work, our budgets (it's possible to provide a top class education on a reasonably frugal Home School budget), a plethora of resources and information as well some of my daughters great work and the incredible hands on learning she has achieved.
