A Glimpse Into Our Homeschool

I will give you a look into a week out of our schedule, how we organize all our activities and classes.

The name may say Homeschool but very little schooling happens at home. If it's a nice day out, we will grab our books and go do our work at the beach or a park, sometimes we just throw a blanket outside in the back yard to soak up some sun while learning. We do a lot of hands on learning because that is the best way for my child to learn and retain information. With homeschooling it's important to have a schedule, but not to be stuck on it or too rigid, as no week is ever the same for us. Here's a look at what our week may look like. Keep in mind I have an ADHD preteen, so things move really slow for us. Everything takes a lot longer than it should, but that's the beauty of homeschooling as you are on your own schedule.

Monday:

9:00 am: Get up, get ready and eat

10:00 am: Start with our computer programs (Math and English)

12:00 pm: Break for Lunch and some free time

1:00 pm : Science (we do the paper work, watch science videos and do a hands on project.)

3:00 pm: Free choice of art or music

4:00 pm: We are done with school work for the day so now chores begins. (She has to do her laundry, then clean and vacuum her room.)

9:00 pm: Shower and get ready for bed.

10:00 pm: All electronics off. We do our 30 minute reading and she will have some free drawing time. (She loves art, so I try to give her as much creative time as I can. )

11:00 pm: Lights out and bedtime.

Tuesday:

8:00 am: Get up, get ready and eat

10:00 am: So anywhere between 10 am and 11 am our classes start on campus. She will take classes like Bionerds, Art, Photography, STEM and she will go for tutoring in essay writing and math.

2:00 pm Go grab lunch and we are done for the day.

3:00 pm: Free choice so art or music

9:00 pm: Shower and get ready for bed.

Thursday:

8:00 am: Get up, get ready and eat

10:00 am: Classes on campus. She will take classes like PE, hiking, sewing and cooking. We normally have more than one class scheduled.

2:00 pm Go grab lunch and we are done for the day.

3:00 pm: Free choice so art or music

9:00 pm: Shower and get ready for bed.

10:00 pm: All electronics off. Reading and drawing time.

11:00 pm: Lights out and bedtime.

Friday:

9:00 am: Get up, get ready and eat

10:00 am: We will try and do a field trip that has something to do what we are currently learning about, or we will get school work done that we didn't get done in the week.

5:00 pm: It's her turn to cook dinner. (She gets to pick a recipe within her $10 budget, cook and do clean up) This is her favorite activity, besides from the cleaning up part. We have had some crazy things like spaghetti tacos with butter beer.

With homeschooling it's important to remember that learning can happen anywhere and not just out of a book. If kids are happy when they are learning and love what they are doing, they will remember more. Have fun with your lessons. Do what works for you and your child because at the end of the day, isn't that the reason why we chose to homeschool?
