Day Trip to Joshua Tree

Updated: May 10, 2019

Our 5 stops on the way to Joshua Tree.

Before we take on a road trip I like to do my homework and always see what's around or near by the place we are going to. I love looking up all the Kooky, crazy and weird things you can find out there. Here are some of our stops on the way to Joshua Tree.

9160 Whitewater Canyon Rd, Whitewater, CA 92282

We stopped here first and went for a hike down the river, it was so refreshing. We went in June and it was already in the 80s at 8am, so a nice cool walk down the river was perfect.

2. Pioneertown

5040 Curtis Road, Pioneertown, CA, 92268

Pioneertown is an Old West town build as a 1940's movie set. It's free to visit the town and worth the stop for lots of cute photos.

3. Yucca Valley

Yucca Valley was a very cute little art town, you have to walk around because you never know what you will discover around the corner. The World Famous Crochet Museum was one of our finds, its right between Yucca Valley and Downtown Joshua Tree. People in this town was really friendly and very excited to share their art with us.

4. Downtown Joshua Tree

I heard the Joshua Tree Saloon was the place to be for good food and live music. We didn't go in on this visit because we still wanted to make a few more stops before sunset.

5. Oasis Visitor Center

74485 National Park Dr, Twentynine Palms, CA 92277

Open from 8:30am - 5pm

Make sure you stop at the center and get your Junior Park Ranger badges, the kids learn so much by earning them. This is also a good Restroom stop before driving through the park.

6. Joshua Tree

Make sure you have a lot of water with you as it can get really hot. Keep an eye out for Skull Rock you can see it from the road and always make sure you are on the lookout for snakes. Joshua Tree is a beautiful drive and the kids loved jumping around on the rocks and climbing all over them. If you have a 4th Grader you can get in for Free in the park with a Park Pass. https://www.everykidinapark.gov/get-your-pass/

Make sure you print out the pass and take it with you. You can only use the pass if the 4th Grader is with you in the car.
